What does conversation intelligence track?
Once a call is a transcript, software can search it and count things in it. Most tools look for some version of these:
- What the buyer said. Search every call for a competitor's name, a budget freeze or a phrase buyers keep using.
- Talk and listen balance. How much of the call the rep spent talking, and how much room the buyer got.
- The questions asked. How many the rep asked, and where in the call they came.
- Moments worth replaying. Objections, next steps and topics, marked on the recording so a manager can jump straight to them.
- Signs about the deal. Calls that ended with no next step, or deals that have gone quiet.
The value grows with the number of calls. One recording tells you what happened on that call. A few hundred start to show what your best reps do that the rest of the team doesn't.
Who uses conversation intelligence, and for what?
Mostly the people who weren't on the call. That is what a recording is for.
| What they use it for | The question it answers | |
|---|---|---|
| Sales managers | Reviewing calls they couldn't join, and picking the moments to coach | What should this rep do differently next time? |
| Sales leaders | Patterns across the team's calls, and deals that look at risk | Which deals are slipping, and why? |
| New hires | A library of real calls to learn from before their own | What does a good call sound like here? |
| The rep who ran the call | Replaying a moment, or finding the buyer's exact words to quote back later | What exactly did they say? |
The rep gets the least from it in the moment. By the time anyone opens the recording, the call is over.
Is revenue intelligence the same thing?
Close, and the two are often sold together. Conversation intelligence starts from the calls. Revenue intelligence usually adds the rest of a deal's trail, like emails, meetings and the records in your CRM, so it can judge how healthy each deal is and help leaders forecast the quarter.
So when a product calls itself a revenue platform, call recording is usually one part of it, with forecasting and pipeline reviews built on top. For one example next to a live coach, see Veracity vs Gong.
How is it different from real-time coaching?
Conversation intelligence looks back across many calls. Real-time coaching works inside one call, on the rep's screen, while the buyer is still talking. One shapes the manager's next coaching session. The other changes the question the rep asks next.
| Conversation intelligence | Real-time coaching | |
|---|---|---|
| Works from | Recordings of calls that already happened | The call happening now |
| Main reader | The manager, after the call | The rep, mid-sentence |
| Good at | Patterns across hundreds of calls | The next question on this one |
| What is kept | Recordings and transcripts, stored to search later | Depends on the tool; Veracity never saves the audio |
| In the meeting | Often a recording bot in the attendee list | With Veracity, nothing joins the meeting |
A recording keeps a moment like that one so a manager can find it on Friday. A live coach puts the better question on the rep's screen while the buyer is still explaining. More on how that works: what is real-time sales coaching?
When does a team want each one?
Start from who needs the help, and when they need it.
- Managers coach from recordings because they can't join every call.
- You need the call itself afterward, to replay it or share it with someone who missed it.
- Leaders want patterns and deal risk across a large team.
- Deals slip on the call itself, through shallow follow-ups or a technical question nobody could answer.
- New reps are on live calls before they've heard many good ones.
- Meetings happen in the room as well as on video.
Plenty of teams run both
A recorder keeps the library, and a live coach helps on the call. Veracity is the live coach. It runs on the rep's computer beside Zoom, Teams, Google Meet or Webex, or in a meeting in the room. It keeps no recordings to replay, because the audio is never saved.
After the call, the rep gets a recap and a grade for every question, with the sentence they could have said instead. Managers see team and per-person call scores by week.
If your team already records calls, the two fit together. Transcripts from any recorder can be imported as .txt, .md, .csv, .vtt or .srt files, and those calls feed the opening question and answers on the next call with that company.
